Divorce
Marriage dissolution, or "divorce", is the statutory process to terminate a marriage legally. You can also request “legal separation” which is the same process except you remain legally married. However, both result in a judgment and decree dealing with all of the applicable issues including child custody, child support, parenting time, spousal maintenance and property division.
How complex and how expensive the process of divorce is depends upon each fact situation and the propensity of the parties to settle or contest the issues. Simple divorces can often be handled on a flat fee basis and can be resolved in a relatively short period. On the other hand, some cases have taken more than a year.
